School Calendars 2025-2026

In an effort to help you plan ahead for the coming school year, we are sharing calendars that provide an overview to the 2025-2026 school year, and may support you in planning for family holidays, medical or dental appointments and other events, while minimizing disruptions to your child’s learning. Consistent attendance and punctuality are fundamental to your child’s success.

The 2025-2026 Learning Calendar outlines the school year by identifying all regular school days, school holidays, professional activity and training days, and early release days. We hope this will help you as you schedule events in the weeks and months to come. Similarly, all schools in York Region follow a Day 1-5 Cycle Calendar. For your reference, the Elementary 5 Day Cycle Calendar for 2025-2026 provides an overview of the 5-day cycle for the entire year. Each morning, the day in the cycle will be shared over the announcements as a reminder for all of our students. Those wishing to embed these calendars electronically into their own smart-devices will be able to find both Google and iCal versions here in the coming weeks.

As well, the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) has designated May 6 to June 9, 2026 as the period during which Primary and Junior Division Provincial Assessments are to occur. We would kindly ask parents and guardians of students in Grade 3 and Grade 6 to avoid booking any appointments or trips during this period. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the office.

We hope you’re enjoying your summer and look forward to a great year ahead.

Trustee’s Message

As we approach the end of the 2024-2025 school year, I want to take this opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments, hard work and commitment of students, staff and families. As I have visited schools, attended events and heard from families, I continue to be proud of the dedication to public education and student achievement and well-being I see.

I want to wish my sincere congratulations to all of the graduates and proud families. This is an exciting time and I hope you enjoy this celebration of all of your hard work, perseverance and accomplishments. Whether you are moving on to secondary school, the workplace or post-secondary pathways, we wish you all the very best in this next exciting chapter of your journey.

We had an opportunity in April to celebrate the achievements of 20 students at our annual Celebrating Student Success/Human Rights Ambassadors Awards event. It was a wonderful reminder of how much our students are capable of. While success and achievement looked different for each student, we saw a common theme of determination and care. Students demonstrated a real commitment to lifting up those around them. I see that everywhere in our system as I visit schools. It makes me so proud to see the ways our students are already shaping the future for the better.

Each month in the Boardroom, we also had the opportunity to recognize the achievements of staff and students through the Applause awards. Congratulations to all of the award recipients. These awards capture a sampling of the incredible work happening around York Region District School Board and the successes we see students achieving.

These successes we have seen this school year would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of staff across the system, and I want to thank you for all that you do each and every day. I also want to recognize the contributions that have been made by school councils, volunteers and families. Your work to enhance family engagement and strengthen public education has a noticeable difference in our schools and in the achievement and well-being of students.

This is a very busy time of year and I wish all of the students the best as you work on projects and prepare for upcoming exams. I hope you also enjoy the celebrations that occur at this time of year, and as we celebrate another successful school year.

Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week

The first week of May marks Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week, and this year’s theme is “Unmasking Mental Health.” The focus is on increasing mental health literacy, reducing stigma, and encouraging daily mental health practices. The York Region District School Board is supporting this important week by providing toolkits for both educators and families. These include virtual workshops, activities, and strategies organized into five themed days:

  • Mindful Monday (May 5)
  • Thoughtful Tuesday (May 6)
  • Wellness Wednesday (May 7)
  • Take Care Thursday (May 8)
  • Focus Friday (May 9)

The linked Parent/Caregiver Toolkit offers valuable resources such as conversation starters, recorded presentations on topics like anxiety and social media, and tips to support children’s mental health at home. A highlight of the week is a free virtual presentation by Dr. Gillian White titled “Turning Stress into Success,” happening on May 8 from 6:00–7:00 p.m. Space is limited, so parents/caregivers are encouraged to register early. We invite all families to explore these resources and continue the conversation around mental wellness at home. For more information, visit School Mental Health Ontario. Simple routines, fun activities, and open conversations can contribute to well-being. School Mental Health Ontario offers Easy and Fun Mental Health Activities for Home, with ideas on managing stress, nurturing relationships, and staying positive.

We continue to support health and wellness at school next week, and all year round.

May School Council Meeting

We wanted to share with our community regarding the upcoming School Council Meeting on Thursday, May 1st at 7:00 p.m. in the school library. We welcome everyone’s involvement and encourage all those interested to attend. Minutes from the previous School Council meeting can be found here. You needn’t be an elected member of the School Council to get involved. Simply come out and lend a hand!

We thank you for your continued support of our school.

Summer Programs

Looking for summer learning and fun activities for students entering Senior Kindergarten to Grade 8? Summer Institute offers academic, recreational and athletic programs and activities with intentional links to the Ontario Curriculum.  The program runs for six weeks during July and August. It is offered at nine school sites around York Region.  For more information on dates, programs and locations, please visit the Summer Institute webpage.

Registration is also open for Grade 6, 7 and 8 Elementary Summer School (In-Person and Remote Learning). This 15-day literacy and numeracy program is designed to reinforce curriculum and is not an acceleration opportunity. Students must register in the program for their current school grade. (For example, a grade 7 student would register for the grade 7 program as it reinforces grade 7 content.) Additional resources are being added to this program to support student success in de-streamed Grade 9 programs. This program will be offered both in-person and through remote learning. Students must select their preference of learning model at the time of registration.  The program will operate from July 7 to July 25, 2025 (8:45 am – 3:25 pm). For more information, including registration information, see the linked 2025 Elementary Summer School webpage.
